Hey there, it's my first post from South Africa!! I'm alive and going through the day. Wow, part of me can't believe it's 1PM here and part of me can't beleive it's only! 1PM. The jet lag? Finally kicking in strong right now. I could use a nap.
The people in the Nielsen office are friendly and charming. I'm enjoying talking to them, even if I am an ass asking them to repeat themselves a few times. They're going through their Values training this week. You know - "Open. Simple. Integrated." Yeah, yeah we all know that stuff. I'm surprised they're going through it only now. Seems different working in a CR/BASES office. I'm now referred to as the "Telecom specialist".
They have a cafeteria here that they call a canteen. So cute! And half of them walk around and speak Afrikaans. So cute! I should have picked up the Rosetta Stone thing-a-ma-bopper before coming over.
I still have no phone right now; hopefully, that is being worked on. I do have Skype, but I don't know my number. SenecaOak is my name on Skype in case you want to connect.
I did get my car - a lovely Chevy Aveo! Oooohhh. Now you know me and I like cars. A Chevy Aveo is like lowest of the lows. Well it's not a Kia.
Anyway, I have zero access to gmail and facebook right now. Apparently Nielsen SA has banned the IP addresses. Furthermore, I have no access to much of the Internet at the hotel, so I can't keep up too much. Comment on here (which I can see) or write to me at my work address (you know it).
More later!

So glad to know you made it safe! Your Willie is doing awesome. He is such a cute guy - wagging his little knuckle of a tail when I get home from work. I'm feeding him Olive's raw food diet because I can't stand the smell of dog food breath. Man am I spoiled... Tell me more about the blocked IP's yo! Is the country blocking them or is it just the hotel/office??? Totally intrigued...
ReplyDeletep.s. I think a Kia is probably better than an Aveo. I'm so sorry for your loss. ;)
p.p.s. "SO Cute!" - is so cute!
Ok, we miss you already. Kyra has no one to be mean to. :) I'm glad you made it safe an sound. We will Skype with you this weekend. Be strong D...you can cuddle with DeeDee if you need to.
ReplyDeleteOi! Unacceptable on the lack of access to major portals from a Nielsen office....We are supposed to be the kings of all media...how can we pretend that by filtering?

And the best way might be to remote in to your computer at home via VM. Max can get you the Ip address. Then that machine just needs to be turned on and you can have full access to its applications.
But congrats on the world of jetlag!
Awesome Matt, thanks so much. I'll get a pint for you, which comes to $2.50. Jessica, hopefully Kyra will come around when I'm home. And Carissa, I'm so glad Willie is doing well!!!
ReplyDeleteOk, I have written you a couple of e-mails but now see you won't get them. This is VERY EXCITING! I am making my coworkers all read your blog too and we are enjoying, and giggling. Living vicariously is fun!
ReplyDeleteI love your posts! Keep them coming my Telecom Specialist! ;)
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks everyone for following and reading! I am so happy to post because it's my way of connecting to all of you!
